“Lutung Kasarung”

Happy Audience.. Assalamu’alaikum wr.wb

All praises is due to Allah, the Lord of the world. Now let me introduce my self, my name is Ai Nurkamila and I am from Dental Nurse Department. Today I want to tell a story about the folklore with the tittle Lutung Kasarung.

Long time ago in west Java there was a kingdom, the king of the kingdom is Prabu Tapa Agung. He had two beautiful daughters, Purbararang was his first daughter and the second daughter’s named is Purbasari.

When Prabu Tapa Agung was about to pass away, he gave the throne to second daughter. Purbararang didn’t agree with her father decision.

“That should be me, father! Because I am the eldest daughter.” Said Purbararang.

The king was smiled. “My lovely daughter Purbararang… To be a queen takes more than age, there are many other qualities.”

“So, what does Purbasari have that I don’t” Purbararang pouted.

And the king answered. “You’ll se if Purbasari replaced me.”

After that, Purbararang discuss with her future husband she call Indra Jaya. They got a bad idea to harmful Purbasari. Then Purbararang asked the witch to cast a spell to Purbasari. Next day Purbasari had a strange skin disease, there were many black dots on her skin. So Purbararang had a reason to tell the king that her sister had a great sin and she was cursed by god.

“A person who is cursed doesn’t deserve to be a queen.”

Then, Prabu Tapa Agung ordered Purbasari to the jungle. Purbasari was very sad, but she accompany by many good animals in there. One of the animal, there was a monkey that always to tried help her. It was not just an ordinary monkey, because he have a magical power. The monkey’s name is Lutung Kasarung.

One day Lutung Kasarung invited Purbasari to the small lake and asked her to take a bath in there. And amazingly, all of the strange skin disease was gone, so Purbasari has got a beautiful skin back. After that she was returned to her kingdom.

Purbararang was very shocked and angry, she come up with another bad idea. “Those who have longer hair will became a quen.”

Evidently Purbasari had a longer hair. But Purbararang didn’t give up.

“Purbasari, a queen must have a handsome husband. If my fiancé more handsome than yours, I will be a queen.”

Purbasari was very very sad, because he didn’t have boyfriend yet.

“Here is my fiancé, Indra Jaya. Where is yours?”

Shortly after, Lutung Kasarung came forward. Purbararang was very shocked.

“Your fiancé is a monkey? Are you kidding us?” Then Purbararang laughing very hard/

Suddenly Lutung Kasarung changed into a very handsome guy. And he was even more handsome than Indra Jaya. Finally Purbasari was to be a new queen and she live happily ever after.
